The Mazda RX-7 Spirit-R was such a great send off.
After the original production of the FD3S ended - it rose from the ashes in one last production run of 1500 vehicles with a tuner catalog full of limited parts in an effort to make the last RX-7, the "ultimate" RX-7. Mazda threw everything they had at it; carbon fiber Recaro seats, limited edition interior trim, bigger brakes, agresive gearing, special floor mats and a trick passenger footrest - it was really the ultimate send off.
These vehicles ALSO got a special red key from Mazda to compliment the host of special parts the car received. These keys have been non-existent for years. But like the Spirit-R itself - we set out to revive them!
The Spirit-R Replica Keys we have produced are manufactured with injected molded heads and chrome covered brass bodies. Although originally only available in red, we decided to make a run in red as well as black.
We have verified fitment on all 1993-1998 Mazda RX-7s [FD3S]. That means, you can walk into any Home Depot or Lowes or your favorite lock smith and have these cut from your existing key (or VIN). However, 99+ lock cylinders seem to very slightly and as such, may be an issue for Series 8 (99+) owners.
I'm not sure how much horsepower a red key adds -- at least as much as red brake calipers -- but it's pretty cool that Garage Alpha was able to reproduce this super rare part. Goes great with my Spirit-R shift knob and red trimmed Garage Alpha floor mats. Shipping was fast, too. Thanks for keeping so many FD parts alive.
Purchased a black and red key for my FD. Both are great quality. Looks and feels much nicer than the stock 94 FD key! I had both of them cut at Home Depot using their laser key cutter. I would caution against going to Home Depot and would tell anyone to go to a lock smith. They cut both keys slightly longer than needed so when in a door lock or ignition I have to slightly pull the key out and it works fine. Minor annoyance, but not on the product itself.
Good quality keys! Nice style upgrade for your old, twisted, and cracked keys. Nice to have a few spares to count on when needed.
Works perfectly, nicely detailed!
The key itself doesn’t bend easy. Probably one of the best keys I’ve owned in a 90’s car.
